Oshkosh JLTV is to replace the good old Humvee and provide the military with some fancy goodies.
Oshkosh corporation won a $6.75 billion contract to build new trucks. To be more precise, they are called Joint Light Tactical Vehicles and they are supposed to be awesome. The U.S army has come to a point where they have no choice but to recognize that the good old Humvees are not that good. At least not for this modern age. The future of the defense business lies somewhere else. That is what the Oshkosh JLTV is all about.
They have chosen the Wisconsin-based company over competitors AM General LLC and Lockheed Martin Corp to build 55,000 JLTV. The Oshkosh JLTV are to replace the Humvee fleet completely over the next 25 years as well as some larger military trucks.
Oshkosh JLTV is now one of the Army’s highest priorities. Thus, it follows a series of shifting requirements and series of budget cuts. Consequently, it prompted the Pentagon to cancel artillery, helicopter and communications programs. Let’s not forget that they have invested billions of dollars.
When it comes to Oshkosh, we know that they have a long history of producing military vehicles. Moreover, they have offered a brand-new design that it’s totally awesome. But, the design is not as important as the other features. The Oshkosh JLTV can carry two or four personnel and is resistant to roadside bombs and mines. What’s even more amazing is that it is light enough to be carried by air.
Of course, Oshkosh JLTV are also more durable and have more range than the worn out Humvees. In addition, they provide good protection and can move gear and troops way more effective. Actually, that’s what they do best. Check out the video below!
