How Ignition System Works
An ignition system generates a spark or heats an electrode to a high temperature to ignite a fuel-air mixture in spark ignition internal combustion engines oil-fired and gas-fired boilers, rocket engines, etc. The widest application for spark ignition internal combustion engines is in petrol road vehicles: cars, SUVs, pickups, vans, trucks, buses.
The components of the ignition system consist of: Battery, Ignition coil, Spark plugs, Distributor and Advance mechanism.

The entire system consists of two electrical systems. One is a low voltage circuit induced by the voltage supplied by the Battery. The other electrical system is the high voltage circuit. This circuit provides the necessary voltage to create a spark at the Spark Plug. The Ignition Coil is the component that produces this high voltage. It is an electromagnetic device that converts the low-tension current from the battery to high-tension current each time the distributor contact-breaker points open. The Distributor is the heart of the ignition system. It triggers the coil at the appropriate moments to distribute the high voltage electrical pulses to the spark plugs that the coil creates.
