1955 Chevy Bel AIr Gasser and hauler “Mr.Chevy”!

Chevy Bel Air GasserThis 1955 Chevy Bel Air Gasser “Mr.Chevy” is very interesting because it has quite a story behind it! Vintage straight-axle cars, often known as “Gassers”, are popular wherever they go. Maybe it’s the sky-high stance or the cartoon-like appearance. Or perhaps it’s the way these cars transport you to a simpler time when racers would try just about anything to go faster. Whatever it is, these cars draw crowds of people because they look like nothing else on the track.

This particular Bel Air Gasser has been modified for racing in 1969 by a gentleman called Van Heck. He also had a matching hauler truck to go with it. He was racing this car in the mid west for about 7 years or so, until he had an accident at the strip, as well as a crash on the road. He decided to retire the car and the truck and put them in a barn. Mr. Heck is no longer alive, but Mr.Chevy was bought by Larry Frees at Heck’s estate sale in 2006. It was cleaned & repaired to “last raced” condition, and the truck was restored partially by the V8 Speed & Resto Shop. Since Frees got the car running and the truck all back together, he’s been sharing the pair with enthusiasts at various shows around the country! Check it out!
